The short answer

Our pick

Jobber is the best Workiz alternative for most small service businesses.

Jobber publishes every plan by team size, has a 14-day trial with no card, and its AI Receptionist ($29/mo as of October 2026) covers part of what Workiz's phone tools do. Pick Housecall Pro if reviews and follow-up marketing drive your leads, or ServiceM8 if you run a small crew doing fewer jobs. For the full list, see our roundup of field service management software.

Workiz built its following among on-demand trades (locksmiths, garage door, appliance repair, junk removal, drain cleaning) by putting the phone in the middle of the app. In 2026 it moved every plan to quote-only, and the phone, AI answering and marketing tools are sold separately. That's pushed a lot of owners to look at Workiz alternatives they can price without a sales call. Here are seven, ranked for a 1-to-15-person service shop, with what each costs and how to replace Workiz's phone features.

Why owners leave Workiz

  • Workiz moved to quote-only pricing in 2026, and every plan (Standard, Pro, Ultimate) now says 'Request pricing,' so you can't compare it with other tools without a sales call.
  • A third-party record shows Workiz's free Lite plan for up to 2 users has been removed, which hit solo operators and two-person shops hardest.
  • Owners commonly report that phone, AI answering and marketing features cost extra. Genius Phone, Genius Answering and Genius Marketing are sold separately with no listed price.
  • Owners commonly report occasional mobile app sync glitches, which matter when techs are closing jobs and taking payment in the field.
  • The free trial is 7 days, which is short for testing with a full week of real jobs.

Each alternative, in detail

Jobber logo

Our pickBest overall alternative

Jobber

The easiest all-rounder for small residential crews

4.1out of 5

Jobber is the cleanest move for a service shop that wants a price it can see. Quotes, scheduling, invoicing, card payments and a client hub where customers approve and pay are all well built. As of October 2026, Core is $29/mo billed annually for 1 user, Connect with 5 users $149/mo and Grow with 5 users $229/mo. AI Receptionist is $29/mo, which answers part of the phone question, but Jobber doesn't have Workiz-style call tracking built into the job screen. Owners commonly report limited inventory, which matters for appliance and garage door shops stocking parts.

What we like

  • Every plan and team size published
  • 14-day trial, no card
  • AI Receptionist add-on at $29/mo

Watch out for

  • No built-in call tracking like Workiz
  • Inventory is limited
Housecall Pro logo

Best for marketing

Housecall Pro

Strong marketing tools and a fast mobile app

4.1out of 5

Housecall Pro covers booking, dispatch, estimates with options, invoicing, payments and review requests, and techs pick it up quickly. As of October 2026, Basic is $59/mo billed annually for 1 user, Essentials $149/mo for up to 5 and MAX $299/mo for up to 8; card processing starts at 2.59%. Its Voice and CSR AI add-ons don't have listed prices, so phone features need a quote, just like Workiz. Owners commonly report inconsistent support response times. For residential plumbing, HVAC and electrical shops, it's the strongest all-rounder here.

What we like

  • Review requests and follow-ups built in
  • Published plan prices
  • Easy for techs

Watch out for

  • Phone add-ons have no listed price
  • Best features on MAX
ServiceM8 logo

Best for low job volume

ServiceM8

Pay-per-job pricing and a slick iPhone app

3.9out of 5

ServiceM8 prices by jobs per month with unlimited users on paid plans, and adds a phone option from $19/mo. As of October 2026, there's a free plan (1 user, 30 jobs), Starter $29/mo for 50 jobs, Growing $79/mo for 150 and Premium $149/mo for 500. A 3-person locksmith or appliance shop doing 120 jobs a month pays $79 with everyone on it. High-volume, low-ticket work burns through job limits. Owners commonly report it works best on iPhone and iPad, and US support is thinner than in Australia, where it's based.

What we like

  • Free plan; unlimited users on paid plans
  • Phone add-on from $19/mo

Watch out for

  • Job limits bite at high volume
  • Android support is more limited
FieldPulse logo

Best for job costing

FieldPulse

Flexible job management with solid estimating

3.9out of 5

FieldPulse covers estimates, service agreements, inventory, project tracking and job costing, with guided onboarding. It fits HVAC, plumbing and electrical shops that want deeper numbers than Workiz gives them. Pricing is quote-only, so it won't fix the 'I can't see the price' problem; third-party estimates range from roughly $30 to $150 per user per month (not published by FieldPulse). Phones and fleet tracking are reported as add-ons, and owners commonly report occasional mobile app bugs.

What we like

  • Inventory and job costing
  • Service agreements built in

Watch out for

  • Quote-only, like Workiz
  • Phone features cost extra
Service Fusion logo

Best for unlimited users

Service Fusion

Flat monthly price with unlimited users

3.9out of 5

Service Fusion charges one flat price with unlimited users: as of October 2026, Starter is $208/mo, Plus $325/mo and Pro $533/mo billed annually. For a 12-person garage door or plumbing company, that flat bill is easy to budget. Inventory is a $50/mo add-on and Job Costing $60/mo. Owners commonly report a dated interface and a clunky mobile app, and there's no free trial listed.

What we like

  • Unlimited users
  • Published prices

Watch out for

  • Inventory and job costing cost extra
  • Dated mobile app
Kickserv logo

Best budget pick

Kickserv

Plain, affordable job management for small teams

3.7out of 5

Kickserv is the cheapest published-price option here: as of October 2026, Start is $60/mo for 5 users, Run $119/mo for 10 and Scale $199/mo for 20, with 20% off annually and a 30-day trial. It covers scheduling, dispatch, estimates, invoicing, a customer portal, basic inventory and QuickBooks sync (Desktop integration $50/mo). There's no phone system, and owners commonly report a dated interface and a weaker mobile app.

What we like

  • Very low price, users included
  • 30-day trial

Watch out for

  • No phone features
  • Dated interface
ServiceTitan logo

Best for large shops

ServiceTitan

Heavy-duty platform for established HVAC, plumbing and electrical shops

3.8out of 5

ServiceTitan is for the Workiz customer that's grown into a 10-plus tech plumbing, HVAC or electrical company with CSRs and a dispatcher. Its call booking, marketing attribution, pricebook and reporting go much further. It's quote-only per technician, with third-party estimates around $245 to $500 per technician per month plus implementation (not published by ServiceTitan). Owners commonly report a long onboarding and annual contracts. Locksmith and junk removal shops won't use most of it.

What we like

  • Deep call booking and reporting
  • Built for full offices

Watch out for

  • Very high total cost
  • Long implementation

Who should switch, and who should stay

Switch if you can't get a straight price. If your renewal quote is a surprise and you can't compare it against anything, move to a tool that publishes its plans. Jobber, Housecall Pro, ServiceM8, Service Fusion and Kickserv all do.

Switch if you only use Workiz as a scheduling and invoicing app. If nobody uses the phone features, you're paying for Workiz's main strength and getting none of it.

Switch if mobile sync is costing you jobs. Owners commonly report occasional sync glitches in the Workiz app. If techs regularly close a job in the field and the office doesn't see it, or payments don't show up until someone refreshes, that's lost time every day.

Switch if you're a solo operator who was on the free plan. With Lite gone, ServiceM8's free plan or Jobber Core at $29/mo billed annually is a cheaper landing spot than a quoted Workiz plan.

Stay if the phone is your business. A garage door or locksmith company where every job is a call, every call is tracked to an ad, and the CSR books while the customer is on the line gets real value from Workiz. Most alternatives can't match that without a separate phone system.

What you'll miss

Calls in the job screen. Seeing the caller, the history and the booking form together is Workiz's core idea. Expect to bolt on a phone service elsewhere.

Call tracking by ad source. If you buy Google ads or Local Services leads and track which calls book, ask every alternative how you'd keep that reporting.

Inventory and job costing. Workiz includes both. Jobber's are limited; Service Fusion charges for them; FieldPulse matches them.

Which alternative fits

Locksmith, garage door and appliance repair, 1 to 5 people. ServiceM8 if your monthly job count fits its tiers; a 3-person appliance shop doing 120 jobs a month pays $79 with unlimited users. Jobber if you'd rather pay by team size and want a client hub where customers approve quotes and pay. Either way, keep your parts list somewhere you trust, because neither matches Workiz on inventory.

Residential plumbing, HVAC and electrical. Housecall Pro for most shops under 8 users. FieldPulse if you need job costing, inventory and service agreements and don't mind a sales call. ServiceTitan only at 10-plus techs with CSRs and a dispatcher.

Junk removal and other same-day work. Jobber or Housecall Pro, paired with a business phone service. Quotes from photos the customer texts in, a fast booking, and payment at the curb are the workflow to test during the trial.

A 10-plus person team that hates per-seat pricing. Service Fusion's flat price with unlimited users, once you add the Inventory ($50/mo) and Job Costing ($60/mo) add-ons you'd need to match Workiz.

Tightest budget. Kickserv at $60/mo for 5 users, if you can live without phone features and a modern app.

What it costs

Prices as of October 2026, billed annually where offered:

Team Jobber Housecall Pro ServiceM8 Kickserv
1 person $29 (Core) $59 (Basic) $0 to $29 (Free or Starter) $60 (Start, 5 users)
5 people $149 (Connect) or $229 (Grow) $149 (Essentials) $79 at 150 jobs/mo $60
10 people $229 (Connect) or $299 (Grow) $369 (MAX + 2 users at $35) $149 at 500 jobs/mo $119 (Run)

Add any phone add-on and card processing on top.

How to switch

Export before your term ends. Customers, addresses, job history, open estimates, unpaid invoices and inventory counts.

Sort out the phone number first. If your business number lives in Workiz's phone system, ask how to port it out before you cancel. Losing the number your ads point to is the most expensive mistake you can make here.

Rebuild your price list and inventory. Load parts and standard services before go-live and test three real jobs.

Run both for two weeks. New calls book in the new system; finish open jobs in Workiz.

Pick a slow stretch. Garage door and HVAC shops should avoid the first cold snap or heat wave; locksmiths and junk removal can usually switch any month.

Questions to ask before you sign

  • What's my written price, with every add-on? Users, plan, phone, answering and marketing tools. For quote-only tools, get it on one page.
  • How do calls reach the job? If the alternative doesn't have built-in phones, ask which phone services it connects to and what shows up on the job record.
  • Can I keep tracking which ads make my phone ring? Ask how call-source reporting works, or plan to keep it in your phone service.
  • What happens to stored cards? Saved payment methods often don't move between processors. Plan to re-collect them from repeat customers.
  • How long is the trial, and can I run real jobs in it? Jobber and Housecall Pro give 14 days, ServiceM8 14 days plus a free plan, Kickserv 30 days.
  • How do I export my data if I leave? Test it during the trial.

Mistakes to avoid

Cancelling Workiz before the number is safe. Port or forward your business number first, then cancel.

Comparing plan prices without the phone. If you used Workiz phones, the alternative's real price is the plan plus a phone service. Add both.

Moving every tech on day one. Start one tech on the new app for a few days, fix the problems, then move the rest.

Workiz compared with

Questions owners ask

How much does Workiz cost now?

As of October 2026, Workiz doesn't publish prices. Its Standard, Pro and Ultimate plans all say 'Request pricing,' and Genius Phone, Genius Answering and Genius Marketing are sold separately. There's a 7-day free trial with no card. Get a written quote that lists your user count and every add-on.

Does Workiz still have a free plan?

No. A third-party record of Workiz's pricing shows the free Lite plan (up to 2 users) has been removed. If you want a free starting point, ServiceM8 has a free plan for 1 user and 30 jobs a month, as of October 2026.

What replaces Workiz's phone features?

No alternative here builds call tracking into the job screen quite like Workiz. Jobber's AI Receptionist is $29/mo, ServiceM8 Phone starts at $19/mo, and Housecall Pro sells Voice as an add-on without a listed price. Many shops pair a field service app with a separate business phone service instead.

Is Jobber better than Workiz?

For most shops that book work ahead, yes: clearer pricing, a strong client hub and a longer trial. For same-day trades where the next job comes in while the truck is rolling, Workiz's phone-first design is still a real advantage. Choose based on how your jobs arrive.
