The short answer

Our pick

Skimmer is the best pool management software for most residential pool service companies.

It's built only for pool service: route builder and optimizer, chemical readings with an LSI and dosing calculator, service emails with photos, autopay and QuickBooks Online sync, with unlimited users. Per-pool pricing gets expensive at high pool counts, where GorillaDesk's per-route pricing is cheaper.

Pool service software has to do something most field service apps never think about: record water chemistry at every stop. Free chlorine, pH, alkalinity, cyanuric acid and calcium hardness, what the tech added, and a photo of a clean pool, sent to the homeowner before the tech reaches the next stop. On top of that come weekly routes, filter cleans, the occasional green-to-clean and repair work on pumps and heaters. We ranked six tools on that work for companies with 1 to 25 techs. For the rest of the stack, see our guide to pool service software.

Our picks, in detail

Skimmer logo

Our pickBest overall for pool service

Skimmer

Purpose-built pool route software priced per pool

4.3out of 5

Skimmer is pool-specific, and it shows in the stop screen. Techs log readings, and an LSI and dosing calculator recommends what to add; Skimmer also integrates with LaMotte testing gear over Bluetooth. After each visit, the customer can get an email with readings, dosages, checklist items, the tech's name and photos. The office side has a route builder, a route optimizer with set start and end points, skipped-stop alerts and texts, autopay, bulk invoicing and QuickBooks Online sync. Pricing as of October 2026: $1 per pool per month with a $49 minimum up to 49 pools, then $2 per pool per month from 50 to 1,000 pools, with unlimited users. Add-ons include AI Phone ($99/mo), Marketing Suite ($150/mo) and Bookkeeping (from $198/mo).

What we like

  • Chemical readings, LSI and dosing built for pools
  • Service emails with readings and photos after every stop
  • Unlimited techs and admins; first month free on Scaling Up

Watch out for

  • Per-pool pricing grows fast at high pool counts
  • Pool-only; awkward if you also do other services
  • Accounting depth limited without the bookkeeping add-on
GorillaDesk logo

Best value as routes grow

GorillaDesk

Affordable, easy route software for pest and pool pros

4.2out of 5

GorillaDesk serves pool, pest and lawn route businesses, and its per-route pricing is the main draw: Basic is $49/mo for one route, Pro $99/mo and Growth $149/mo, with extra routes at $30 to $50/mo each and unlimited users, as of October 2026. Route planning helps you fit new pools near confirmed stops, techs record material use in the field, and job notes support pool maintenance checklists and attachments. Subscription billing and cards on file run through Stripe or Square. GorillaDesk's pool pages don't describe dedicated water chemistry logging or dosing tools the way Skimmer does, so check that before you switch. SMS is billed separately through credits.

What we like

  • Per-route pricing with unlimited users
  • Free data migration, including starting balances
  • Route planning for weekly stops

Watch out for

  • Less pool-specific than Skimmer on chemistry
  • Basic reporting; SMS costs extra
Jobber logo

Best for pool plus other work

Jobber

The easiest all-rounder for small residential crews

4.1out of 5

Jobber makes sense for a company that does pool service alongside landscaping, pressure washing or general home maintenance and wants one system for all of it. Recurring visits, route optimization, invoicing, a client hub and online payments are polished, and pricing is published: Core $29/mo (1 user), Connect $149/mo (5 users), Grow $229/mo (5 users), billed annually, as of October 2026. Cards are 2.9% + 30¢ and ACH 1%. For chemistry, you'd use custom forms or checklists, which works but lacks dosing help and automatic readings in the customer email.

What we like

  • Handles pool and non-pool work in one system
  • Published pricing and a 14-day trial

Watch out for

  • No built-in chemistry or dosing tools
  • Per-user brackets cost more than per-route as you add office staff
Housecall Pro logo

Best for repair-heavy shops

Housecall Pro

Strong marketing tools and a fast mobile app

4.1out of 5

Housecall Pro fits a pool company where repairs and equipment installs are a big share of revenue: pump and motor swaps, heater replacements, automation upgrades. Estimates with options, the sales proposal tool on MAX and easy invoicing suit that work better than route-first tools. Plans as of October 2026: Basic $59/mo (1 user), Essentials $149/mo (up to 5 users), MAX $299/mo (up to 8 users), billed annually, with card processing from 2.59%. For weekly chemical service, you'd build checklists yourself, and owners commonly report that the best features sit on MAX.

What we like

  • Strong estimates and proposals for equipment jobs
  • Card processing from 2.59%

Watch out for

  • No pool chemistry tools
  • Better features locked to MAX
FieldPulse logo

Best for service plus remodels

FieldPulse

Flexible job management with solid estimating

3.9out of 5

FieldPulse is a general service platform with configurable estimates, service agreements, project tracking and inventory, which suits a pool company that also does renovations, resurfacing or equipment pads. Inventory helps if you stock pumps, filters and heaters. FieldPulse doesn't publish prices; third-party estimates run roughly $30 to $150 per user per month (not published by the vendor). It has no pool chemistry tools, phones and fleet tracking are add-ons, and users commonly report occasional mobile app bugs. Weekly route customers would need custom checklists.

What we like

  • Service agreements and project tracking
  • Inventory for parts and equipment

Watch out for

  • No chemistry tools; quote-only pricing
  • Add-ons for phones and fleet
Workiz logo

Best for one-off repair calls

Workiz

Built-in phones and call tracking for on-demand service work

3.8out of 5

Workiz suits a pool repair business that runs on inbound calls, such as no-heat calls in fall, leaking pumps and broken automation, rather than weekly routes. Calls, estimates, jobs and invoices sit in one place, with inventory and job costing included. Genius Phone and Answering are sold separately. Workiz moved to quote-only pricing in 2026, and there's a 7-day free trial. It is a poor fit for a weekly chemical route book, and users commonly report occasional mobile sync glitches, which you should test at a backyard equipment pad before committing.

What we like

  • Good for call-driven repair work
  • Inventory and job costing included

Watch out for

  • Not built for weekly routes or chemistry
  • Quote-only pricing

What pool service companies need from field service software

Weekly chemical service is a route business with lab work at every stop. The tech arrives, tests the water, adds chemicals, brushes, skims, empties baskets, checks the equipment and moves on, 15 to 20 times a day. The software has to make that stop fast to record, because nobody types a paragraph into a phone with wet hands.

What matters most:

  • Readings and dosing at the stop. Free chlorine, pH, alkalinity, CYA and calcium hardness, plus what was added. A dosing calculator helps newer techs stop over-shocking pools.
  • Service emails. Readings, chemicals added and a photo, sent automatically. This is the single feature homeowners notice.
  • Routes that hold steady. The same pools on the same day each week, with easy moves when a tech is out or a customer changes days.
  • Skipped-stop handling. Locked gates and dogs in the yard happen weekly. The office should know right away, and the customer should get a text.
  • Billing that matches your model. Flat monthly with chemicals included, or service plus chemicals billed by use. Autopay either way.
  • Repair and green-pool jobs. Pump swaps, filter cleans and green-to-clean cleanups are one-off jobs with estimates, separate from the route.

How the picks compare

Skimmer wins because it's the only tool here built around the pool stop itself, with chemistry, dosing and service emails as core features. GorillaDesk is the value pick: route-based pricing gets cheaper per pool as your routes fill up, though you give up some of Skimmer's pool-specific depth. Jobber suits companies that do pool service as one line among several. Housecall Pro, FieldPulse and Workiz are better at repairs, equipment installs and renovation work than weekly chemical routes.

Seasonality is the other thing to plan for. In southern markets, routes run all year and the software mostly needs to handle summer volume and storm cleanups. In northern markets, spring openings and fall closings are a rush of one-off jobs on top of a shrinking or paused route, and some customers switch from weekly to biweekly service in shoulder months. Make sure whichever tool you pick can pause recurring service and billing for the winter without deleting the customer, then restart it in spring with the same day and tech.

If you also run crews in other trades, see our roundup of field service management software.

What to look for before you sign

  • Time a stop. In the trial, record a full visit with readings and photos. If it takes more than a minute or two, techs will skip fields.
  • Check the customer email on a phone. It's what your customers will judge you by.
  • Test a route change. Move a pool from Tuesday to Thursday and see what happens to billing and the customer notice.
  • Confirm chemical billing. If you bill chemicals by use, make sure dosages flow to the invoice.
  • Count pools against price. Per-pool and per-route pricing cross over quickly. Run your numbers.

What it costs

Prices as of October 2026. Assumes a hypothetical 70 weekly pools per tech.

Shop size Skimmer GorillaDesk Basic Jobber
1 tech, 70 pools About $140/mo $49/mo (1 route) $29/mo (Core, annual)
5 techs, 350 pools About $700/mo $209/mo (5 routes) $229/mo (Grow, 5 users, annual)
15 techs, 1,050 pools Enterprise, custom quote $509/mo (15 routes) $399/mo (Grow, 15 users, annual)

Skimmer includes unlimited users and service texts on Scaling Up; GorillaDesk includes unlimited users but bills SMS through credits; Jobber charges by user bracket, so office staff count.

Questions owners ask

Is there free pool service software?

None of the pool-specific tools on this page is free. Skimmer's lowest tier is $49/mo, which covers up to 49 pools at $1 each, and its Scaling Up tier includes the first month free with a 30-day refund guarantee. GorillaDesk starts at $49/mo per route. For a part-timer with a handful of pools, a spreadsheet and a texting app can work until the route grows.

What's the best pool service software for a one-person route?

Skimmer is the best fit for a solo tech doing weekly chemical service, at $1 per pool per month up to 49 pools ($49 minimum), then $2 per pool. GorillaDesk Basic is $49/mo for one route regardless of pool count, so it becomes the cheaper option once you pass 49 pools and Skimmer moves to $2 per pool. Prices are as of October 2026.

Should pool service software send readings to customers?

Yes. A short email after each visit with readings, what was added and a photo cuts down on 'did anyone come this week' calls and protects you when a homeowner claims you missed a stop. Skimmer does this out of the box. In general tools like Jobber, you'd send a form or checklist with the visit instead.

Per pool or per route: which pricing is cheaper?

Per pool is cheaper for small books and gets expensive as you grow. A tech with 70 weekly pools costs about $140/mo on Skimmer's $2-per-pool tier, versus $49/mo on GorillaDesk Basic for one route. At five routes of 70 pools, Skimmer is about $700/mo and GorillaDesk Basic $209/mo. Skimmer's pool-specific tools are what you're paying the difference for.
