Skimmer Review & Pricing: Plans, Costs and Verdict

Skimmer is the pool service app to beat for residential weekly routes. It charges per pool, not per tech, and the $2 Scaling Up plan is the one most growing companies need.

Our verdict

Skimmer is the best fit for residential pool routes from one truck to a dozen.

Skimmer puts readings, dosing, photos and the service email at the center of the tech's day, which is exactly how a weekly pool route works. Per-pool pricing with unlimited users keeps a solo route under $50 a month, though a 400-pool company pays around $800. Bookkeeping, AI phone answering and marketing cost extra. Skimmer is software built only for pool service: weekly routes, chemical readings, service emails with photos, and billing. Instead of charging per user, it charges per serviced location each month. As of October 2026 that's $1 per pool on Getting Started (with a $49 minimum, for up to 49 pools) and $2 per pool on Scaling Up, with unlimited techs and admins on both. That model is cheap for a solo route and climbs steadily as you grow. Below is what each plan includes, what 40, 120 and 400-pool companies pay, and where the add-ons come in.

Good fit if you

  • Residential pool service companies running weekly chemical and cleaning routes
  • Owner-operators with under 50 pools who want a real system for $49 a month
  • Growing companies that add techs often and don't want per-seat fees
  • Seasonal operators, since locations you don't service in a month aren't billed

Look elsewhere if you

  • Companies that also do pest, lawn or HVAC work and want one system for everything
  • Large routes where $2 per pool adds up faster than a flat or per-tech plan would
  • Owners who want full accounting inside the app without paying for bookkeeping

What we like

  • Priced per serviced location with unlimited technicians and admins
  • Readings, dosages and photo service reports on every plan
  • Unserviced locations aren't billed that month, which helps seasonal routes
  • Scaling Up adds route optimization, recurring work orders and LaMotte integration
  • 30-day refund guarantee, and the first month of Scaling Up is free

Watch out for

  • Pool only, so mixed-trade companies need a second system
  • Getting Started lacks quotes, scheduling, recurring work orders and route optimization
  • Per-pool cost grows quickly at high pool counts, owners commonly report
  • Bookkeeping, AI Phone and Marketing Suite are paid add-ons

What Skimmer is

Skimmer is route and billing software for residential pool service companies. It doesn't try to serve other trades. A tech opens the app, works the day's route, logs chlorine, pH, alkalinity and other readings, records what was added, checks off the service checklist, snaps photos and finishes the stop. The customer gets a service email showing what was done. The office sees it all and bills at month end.

That focus is the reason pool owners pick it. Generic field service apps treat a pool visit like any other job. Skimmer treats it as a weekly stop with a water-chemistry record, which is how the work actually runs.

Weekly routes and the tech's day

The route builder is on every plan. You assign customers to a tech and a day, and the route repeats weekly. Getting Started gives you the route builder; Scaling Up adds route optimization to reorder stops by drive time, plus required checklist items, so a new hire can't skip the skimmer basket or the filter pressure check.

Readings and dosages are included on every plan. On Scaling Up, Skimmer adds an LSI and dosing calculator powered by Orenda, and LaMotte integration, so readings from a LaMotte test kit can flow in rather than being typed. For a company training new techs, dosing guidance in the app cuts down on calls to the owner from the truck.

Photos are capped by plan: Getting Started allows 5 photos per visit and 20 per location, Scaling Up 20 per visit and 40 per location, and Enterprise 30 and 50. For weekly service that's plenty. For documenting equipment damage before a repair, the higher cap helps.

A shopping list feature and a Heritage integration are included on every plan, which helps techs restock chemicals and parts.

Service emails and customer communication

The service report email is the feature customers notice. After each visit, the homeowner gets a report with readings and photos. For absentee owners and vacation homes, that email is proof the pool was serviced, which cuts down on "did anyone come this week" calls.

Getting Started includes service reports and emails, customized email settings and a customer portal. Scaling Up adds broadcast emails, handy for "we're closed Monday for the holiday" or seasonal opening reminders, and includes unlimited service texts. On Getting Started, texts cost $0.029 each.

Repairs, quotes and recurring work orders

Pool companies make real margin on repairs, equipment swaps and green-to-clean jobs. Getting Started handles these as one-time work orders with reminders. It doesn't include quotes and estimates, a schedule view or recurring work orders.

That's the real line between the plans. If you quote a heater replacement, schedule it for Thursday and set quarterly filter cleans on 80 accounts, you need Scaling Up. Scaling Up also adds consumer financing through Sunbit, which helps sell bigger equipment jobs, and productivity reporting by tech.

Billing and payments

Invoicing, bulk invoices, online and offline payments, AutoPay, surcharging and QuickBooks Online sync are on every plan, along with sales tax, customer, payment and invoice reports. Most pool companies bill a flat monthly rate plus chemicals or repairs, and bulk invoicing at month end is built for that.

Skimmer doesn't publish its card processing rates on the pricing page, so ask during the demo. If you want someone else to keep the books, Skimmer Bookkeeping starts at $198 a month.

Skimmer pricing in plain terms

Skimmer charges per serviced location per month. A location is a service address, so a backyard with a pool and spa counts once. Unlimited techs and admins are included on every plan. As of October 2026:

Plan Price Who it's for
Getting Started $1 per location/mo, $49 minimum (includes 49 locations) 0 to 49 pools
Scaling Up $2 per location/mo, starts at $98 (includes 49 locations) 50 to 1,000 pools
Enterprise Custom 1,000+ pools

Here's what that looks like by route size:

Company size Plan Monthly cost Math
Solo, 40 pools Getting Started $49 Minimum covers up to 49
Two techs, 120 pools Scaling Up $240 $98 + 71 x $2
Six techs, 400 pools Scaling Up $800 $98 + 351 x $2

Skimmer's promotion terms describe Scaling Up as a $98 base plus $2 for each location beyond 49, which comes out the same as $2 times your total pool count. The pricing card wording is less clear, so confirm the math on your own count with Skimmer before you sign.

Add-ons are where the bill grows. AI Phone is $99 a month, Marketing Suite $150 a month and Bookkeeping from $198 a month. A 400-pool company taking Bookkeeping and AI Phone would pay about $1,097 a month. None of them are required.

The billing rule on unserviced locations helps seasonal markets. If a northern customer closes their pool from October to May, you aren't paying Skimmer for that address in the months you don't visit.

Switching to Skimmer without losing a week

Timing matters more than the software. Move in the slow months, after closings in the fall or before openings in spring, not in June when every tech is running a full route and the phones are ringing with green pools.

Before you cancel your old system, export customer lists, service addresses, gate codes and access notes, rates, open balances and any equipment records you keep per pool. Build routes in Skimmer by tech and day, then run one week where techs log in Skimmer while the office still bills from the old system. Compare the service emails and the month-end invoices before you switch billing over. The 30-day refund window gives you room to back out if the first billing run doesn't match.

Where Skimmer falls short

It's pool only. If you also run a pest or lawn division, you'll need another system, and a tool like GorillaDesk that covers pest, pool and lawn on one account may make more sense.

The per-pool model rewards small routes and taxes big ones. At 400 pools you're at $800 a month before add-ons, and owners commonly report that per-pool pricing grows quickly at high route counts. Compare that against a flat or per-route price before you commit.

Getting Started is thin for anyone doing repairs. No quotes, no schedule, no recurring work orders and no route optimization mean most companies outgrow it at about the same point they pass 49 pools anyway.

Accounting depth is limited without the paid Bookkeeping add-on, owners commonly report. Plan on QuickBooks Online alongside it.

Who should look elsewhere

Mixed-trade companies should look at GorillaDesk, which prices per route with unlimited users and covers pest and lawn as well as pool. Pool companies doing heavy construction or remodel work may want a general tool like Jobber for the project side. Everyone else running weekly residential routes should start with the free month of Scaling Up and run a full month of billing through it before deciding.

Questions owners ask

How much does Skimmer cost?

As of October 2026, Skimmer's Getting Started plan is $1 per serviced location per month with a $49 minimum, for companies with up to 49 pools. Scaling Up is $2 per location per month, starting at $98 for the first 49 locations, for 50 to 1,000 pools. Enterprise pricing for 1,000+ pools is custom. Every plan includes unlimited techs and admins.

Does Skimmer charge per pool or per visit?

Per serviced location per month, not per visit. Skimmer says you're billed once a month for each location you service, whether you visit once or ten times, and a location with a pool, spa and fountain counts as one. If you don't service a location in a given month, it isn't billed.

Is there a free trial of Skimmer?

Skimmer offers the first month of Scaling Up free for new customers, covering up to 49 locations. Its terms say usage beyond 49 locations during that month is billed after the trial ends unless you cancel. Skimmer also advertises a 30-day risk-free guarantee: cancel and request a refund within 30 days to get your subscription fee back.

What's the difference between Getting Started and Scaling Up?

Getting Started covers routes, one-time work orders, readings and dosages, service emails, invoicing, online payments, the customer portal and QuickBooks Online sync. Scaling Up adds quotes and estimates, job management, a schedule, recurring work orders, route optimization, LaMotte and Orenda integrations, unlimited service texts, more photos per visit and live phone support.

Does Skimmer work with QuickBooks?

Yes. QuickBooks Online sync is included on every Skimmer plan. Skimmer also sells its own Bookkeeping service from $198 a month for owners who want the books handled for them. Owners commonly report that Skimmer's built-in accounting is limited on its own, so most shops pair it with QuickBooks Online.

Can I use Skimmer for pool repairs and green-to-clean jobs?

Yes, through work orders. Getting Started includes one-time work orders, which handle a pump repair or a green-to-clean. If you quote those jobs and schedule follow-ups or recurring filter cleans, you'll want Scaling Up, which adds quotes and estimates, job management and recurring work orders.
