ServiceM8 Review & Pricing: Plans, Costs and Verdict

ServiceM8 charges by jobs per month, not by user, which makes it one of the cheapest field service apps for small trade crews. It's at its best on iPhone, and US support is thinner than at home in Australia.

Our verdict

ServiceM8 is the best value for small trade shops on iPhones that want unlimited users and predictable, job-based pricing.

Every paid plan includes unlimited staff, the free plan is real, and you can move between tiers any time with no lock-in. It covers scheduling, dispatch, quotes, invoices, payments and QuickBooks sync. Users commonly report the best experience is on iOS, job limits get expensive for high-volume low-ticket work, and US support is thinner. If that's a problem, compare other field service management software built in the US.

ServiceM8 pricing works differently from most field service software. You pay for how many jobs you create each month, not how many people log in. The free plan covers 30 jobs a month for one user. Paid plans run $29 for 50 jobs, $79 for 150, $149 for 500 and $349 for 1,500-plus, all with unlimited users. A 5-tech plumbing shop can run on the $149 plan, which is cheap by any standard. Below is how job credits are counted, what each plan adds, and the shops that should skip it, starting with anyone whose crew carries Android phones.

What ServiceM8 is

ServiceM8 is field service software for small trade businesses: plumbers, electricians, HVAC techs, handymen, cleaners. It started in Adelaide, Australia, and it was built iPhone-first, which still shapes it today. The app is clean and quick on an iPhone or iPad. The office side runs in a web browser.

It covers the core loop: book the job, schedule and dispatch it, quote it, do it, invoice it, take payment, and sync to QuickBooks. GPS, photos, time tracking, inventory, a customer portal and review requests are part of the feature set.

The pricing is the headline. You pay by jobs per month, with unlimited users on every paid plan.

Scheduling and dispatch

The dispatch board shows jobs and staff, and GPS lets the office see where techs are. Recurring jobs are on every plan, including Free, so a quarterly backflow test or an annual water heater flush can be set once and forgotten. Starter adds auto-pay for recurring jobs.

Techs get their schedule on the app, and job notes, photos and customer history travel with each job.

Quotes, invoices and payments

Quotes and invoices are on every plan, and deposits are included even on Free. Starter adds partial and progress invoices and supplier invoice importing, which saves retyping parts costs from your supply house bills. Growing adds proposals, bundles, forms and certificates, and asset management, so you can track a customer's water heater or panel and its service history.

Premium adds job costing and markup billing. For a plumbing shop billing parts at cost plus a markup, markup billing is the one to look for.

The mobile app

The iOS app is the best part of ServiceM8. Users commonly report the Android experience is more limited. If your crew is split between iPhone and Android, run the 14-day trial on each tech's own phone before you decide. Some shops end up buying iPads for the trucks, which is a hardware cost worth adding to your budget.

ServiceM8 pricing in plain terms

Here's the US lineup as of October 2026. ServiceM8 lists monthly prices only.

Plan Price Jobs per month Users Main additions
Free $0 30 1 Essentials, recurring jobs, deposits
Starter $29/mo 50 Unlimited Progress invoices, supplier invoice import, API
Growing $79/mo 150 Unlimited Proposals, forms and certificates, asset management
Premium $149/mo 500 Unlimited Job costing, markup billing, Knowledge
Premium Plus $349/mo 1,500+ Unlimited Everything; extra jobs 20 cents each

How job credits work

Every new job card uses one credit. A quote that turns into a work order doesn't use a second one. Quotes that go nowhere still count.

If you run over, ServiceM8 lets you keep working normally for 7 days. If your monthly credits reset in that window, nothing happens. If not, you're prompted to upgrade. On Premium Plus, jobs past 1,500 are 20 cents each.

Estimating your job count

Count jobs, not invoices. Take your techs, multiply by average jobs per tech per day, then by working days, then add the quotes that don't convert.

  • 1 tech at 2 jobs a day, 22 days, plus 10 unsold quotes: about 54 jobs. That's just over Starter's 50, so Growing at $79.
  • 5 techs at 4 jobs a day, 22 days: about 440 jobs, plus quotes. Premium at $149, close to its cap.
  • 15 techs at 5 jobs a day: about 1,650 jobs. Premium Plus at $349 plus about $30 in extra jobs.

The 5-tech number is the one to notice. $149 a month for unlimited users works out to about $30 per tech, before you count office staff.

Where job pricing hurts

Low-ticket, high-volume work. A pest control route tech might run 15 stops a day. Ten techs at that pace over 22 days is about 3,300 jobs a month, so you would pay $349 plus 20 cents on each of the 1,800 jobs past 1,500, about $709 a month, for jobs that often bill under $100. Route-based tools priced per user can come out cheaper for that work.

Contract terms and add-ons

There's no lock-in. You can upgrade or downgrade any time, with unused credit applied pro-rata to the new plan. ServiceM8 Phone is an add-on from $19 a month. Card processing rates aren't listed on the pricing page.

Is it worth it over a simple invoicing app

For a lot of small shops, the alternative isn't another field service platform. It's a quote and invoice app plus a shared Google Calendar and a lot of texting. ServiceM8 earns its keep over that setup in three places.

Dispatch. Once you have two or more techs, someone is moving jobs around every day. Doing it on a calendar and then texting addresses to each tech is where emergency calls get double-booked and job notes get lost.

Job history. When a customer calls about the same leak eight months later, the tech can see the photos, notes and parts from the last visit on their phone before they knock.

Paperwork that converts. A quote accepted on site turns into a work order and then an invoice without being retyped, and on Growing and above you can attach the certificate or form your trade needs.

At $79 to $149 a month for a 2-to-5 tech shop, it takes very little saved time to cover the bill. Say your office manager earns $25 an hour and spends five fewer hours a month on scheduling and chasing paperwork. That's $125, which pays for Growing outright.

Making the 14-day trial count

The trial includes full access to every feature with no credit card, so test the parts that are hardest to undo:

  1. Put the app on every tech's own phone on day one, Android included. This is where you'll learn the most.
  2. Load 20 real customers and your most common job types and price items.
  3. Run real jobs for a week: book, dispatch, quote on site, convert to work order, invoice, take payment.
  4. Connect QuickBooks and check that invoices, payments and customers sync the way your bookkeeper wants.
  5. Count the job credits you used in a typical week, multiply by about 4.3, and pick your plan from that number, not from a guess.

Where it falls short

Android. Users commonly report it's more limited than iOS.

Volume pricing for small jobs. Fine for plumbers and electricians, expensive for route businesses.

US support and integrations. Users commonly report these are thinner than for Australian customers. If you depend on a specific US supply house or payroll integration, check it during the trial.

Features spread across tiers. Proposals and asset tracking need Growing. Job costing needs Premium. The $29 plan is basic.

Who should look elsewhere

  • Android crews. Try Jobber, Housecall Pro or FieldPulse.
  • Route-based businesses like pest, lawn and pool. Look at route-focused tools priced per user or per route.
  • Shops with 15-plus techs that want US-based support and deeper integrations. Service Fusion's flat, unlimited-user plans or FieldEdge are worth a quote.
  • Contractors doing long projects with draws. Contractor Foreman or Buildertrend fit better.

Questions owners ask

How much does ServiceM8 cost in the US?

As of October 2026, ServiceM8's US pricing is free for 1 user and 30 jobs a month, $29 for 50 jobs, $79 for 150 jobs, $149 for 500 jobs and $349 for 1,500-plus jobs, with extra jobs at 20 cents. Paid plans include unlimited users. There's a 14-day free trial with no credit card.

What counts as a job in ServiceM8?

Every new job card uses one job credit. A job can start as a quote or a work order, and if a quote is accepted and turned into a work order, it doesn't use a second credit. Quotes that never turn into work still count, so shops that send lots of quotes should factor that in.

What happens if I go over my ServiceM8 job limit?

ServiceM8 says you can keep creating jobs and working normally for another 7 days. If your monthly credits reset in that time, you're fine. Otherwise you'll be prompted to upgrade. On Premium Plus, extra jobs past 1,500 cost 20 cents each.

Does ServiceM8 work on Android?

ServiceM8 started on iPhone and iPad, and users commonly report the best experience is still on iOS, with Android support more limited. If your techs carry Android phones, use the 14-day trial on their actual phones before you commit. Some shops end up buying iPhones or iPads for the trucks.

Is ServiceM8 good for small plumbing or electrical businesses?

Yes, especially for shops of 1 to 10 techs doing a few jobs a day each. Job-based pricing with unlimited users is hard to beat at that size. It gets less attractive for high-volume route work, where hundreds of small jobs each use a credit.
