Our verdict
Contractor Foreman is the best-value project system for small general contractors and remodelers.
For $49 to $332 a month billed annually, you get most of what Buildertrend does at a fraction of the $499-a-month starting price. Plans are capped by users, there's a 30-day trial, and annual Plus, Pro and Unlimited plans carry a 100-day money-back guarantee. Expect a cluttered interface and real setup time. Compare it with the other software for general contractors we've reviewed if polish matters more than price.

Contractor Foreman
Small GCs on a budget
From $49/mo billed annually
30-day free trial · checked Oct 18, 2026
Contractor Foreman pricing is tiered by how many people log in: $49 a month billed annually for one user, up to $332 a month billed annually for unlimited users. That buys estimates, bids, scheduling with Gantt charts, change orders, daily logs, time cards with GPS, a client portal and job costing, which is a module list that usually costs several times more. The trade-off is polish. Users commonly describe the interface as busy and the setup as work. Here's what each plan costs, the payment fees that matter on big draws, and who should pay more for something else.

What Contractor Foreman is
Contractor Foreman is construction project management software for small and mid-size general contractors, remodelers and specialty contractors. It tries to cover the whole job: estimates and bids, schedules, change orders, daily logs, time cards, safety meetings, client communication, job costing and invoicing. The pitch is simple: most of what the big platforms do, for a fraction of the price.
That pitch mostly holds up. The catch is that a product with this many modules can feel cluttered. Users commonly say the interface is busy and that it takes real effort to configure. If you're willing to ignore what you don't use and spend a few evenings on setup, it's hard to beat on price.
Estimates, bids and change orders
You can build estimates from your own items or the local material database, send bid packages to subs and collect their numbers, and turn the estimate into a project budget. Basic and Standard don't include pricing in the material database, so if you want built-in material prices, look at Plus and above.
Change orders get written, sent and signed and roll into the budget and invoices. For remodelers, this is the module that protects margin. A homeowner who adds recessed lights in the hallway signs for them before your electrician comes back.
Scheduling, daily logs and time cards
Schedules include a Gantt view so you can lay out phases and see what slips when the drywall sub is late. Daily logs record crew, weather, work done and photos. Time cards track hours with GPS, and those hours feed job costing.
Safety meetings are built in too, which matters if you have OSHA toolbox-talk records to keep.
Client portal, job costing and QuickBooks
The client portal lets homeowners see schedules, documents, change orders and invoices. Job costing reports compare estimated and actual costs, and Contractor Foreman connects to QuickBooks Online.
Payments
This is where Contractor Foreman is unusually clear. It publishes its rates:
- Visa, Mastercard, Discover: 2.9% + $0.30
- Amex: 3.9% + $0.30
- ACH: 1% + $0.30, capped at $10
That ACH cap matters for contractors. On a $40,000 progress draw, a Visa payment costs about $1,160 in fees and ACH costs $10. Write ACH into your payment terms for draws and keep cards for small invoices.
The mobile app
There's an app for phones and tablets that covers time cards, daily logs, photos and schedule checks. Users commonly report it can be slow at times. Office tasks like estimating and budgets are better done on a computer.
Contractor Foreman pricing in plain terms
Contractor Foreman prices by user cap. Here's the lineup as of October 2026:
| Plan | Users | Annual billing | Per year | Monthly billing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | 1 | $49/mo | $588 | Not offered |
| Standard | Up to 3 | $105/mo | $1,264 | $139/mo |
| Plus | Up to 8 | $166/mo | $1,997 | $199/mo |
| Pro | Up to 15 | $221/mo | $2,654 | $279/mo |
| Unlimited | Unlimited | $332/mo | $3,984 | $399/mo |
What changes between plans
User count is the main difference. A few other things move with the tier:
- Setup and implementation is free on Pro and Unlimited. It isn't listed for the others.
- Money-back guarantee is 100 days on annual Plus, Pro and Unlimited, and 30 days on monthly plans.
- Material database pricing is missing on Basic and Standard.
- Extra company accounts are 50% off, useful if you run a remodeling company and a separate roofing company.
There's no per-seat add-on. Your fourth user moves you from Standard to Plus, and your sixteenth moves you from Pro to Unlimited.
Picking the right tier
- Solo owner: Basic at $49/mo billed annually. You'll do your own estimates, schedules and invoices.
- Owner plus office plus a lead carpenter: Standard at $105/mo billed annually.
- 4 to 8 people: Plus at $166/mo billed annually. Most small remodelers land here.
- 9 to 15 people: Pro at $221/mo billed annually, with free setup.
- 16 or more: Unlimited at $332/mo billed annually. At 25 users, that's about $13 per person.
Paying monthly costs $33 to $67 a month more depending on the tier. Use the 30-day trial and pay monthly for a month or two if you're unsure, then switch to annual. The 100-day guarantee on annual Plus and up takes most of the risk out of committing early.
Is it worth it
At $1,997 a year for a 5-person company on Plus, Contractor Foreman costs about a third of Buildertrend's starting price for the year. One change order that gets signed instead of argued about pays for most of a year. The ACH cap alone can save more than the subscription for a contractor collecting a few large draws each month.
Using the 30-day trial properly
Thirty days is enough to learn whether Contractor Foreman fits, if you spend them on real work. A plan for a small remodeler:
Week 1: the bones. Enter your company info, logo, payment terms and cost codes. Match the cost codes to your QuickBooks Online accounts now, before any estimate goes out. Connect QuickBooks.
Week 2: one live estimate. Build an estimate for a job you're actually bidding, say a $35,000 bathroom. Use your own line items. Send it to the client, get it signed, and convert it into a project.
Week 3: run the job. Put the schedule on the Gantt chart, have your lead carpenter clock in and out with GPS time cards, and fill in daily logs with photos. When the client asks for an extra niche in the shower, write it up as a change order and get it signed in the portal.
Week 4: bill and review. Send the first progress invoice, ask the client to pay by ACH, and pull a job costing report. If estimated and actual labor hours line up roughly, the setup is working.
If your crew is still texting you photos instead of using daily logs by day 30, that's a sign about adoption, not the software. Fix it before you buy an annual plan. If you do buy annual on Plus or higher, the 100-day guarantee gives you another three months to change your mind.
Where it falls short
Busy interface. Users commonly report that the sheer number of modules makes it feel crowded. Hiding the modules you don't use makes the screens calmer.
Setup takes time. Users commonly report a learning curve. Free implementation only comes on Pro and Unlimited, so smaller shops do more of it themselves.
Mobile speed. Users commonly report occasional slowness in the app.
Not for service work. No real dispatch board, flat-rate pricebook or maintenance agreements. HVAC and plumbing service shops should look at field service tools.
Who should look elsewhere
- High-end remodelers selling lots of selections. Buildertrend's client experience is more polished, at $499/mo and up.
- Subcontractors doing AIA pay apps and retainage. Knowify is built around progress billing and QuickBooks.
- Solo handymen who only need estimates and invoices. Joist starts at $10/mo.
- Crews that mainly need photo documentation. CompanyCam starts at $63/mo billed annually.
Questions owners ask
How much does Contractor Foreman cost?
As of October 2026, Contractor Foreman costs $49 a month billed annually for Basic (1 user), $105 for Standard (up to 3 users), $166 for Plus (up to 8), $221 for Pro (up to 15) and $332 for Unlimited. Paying monthly costs $139, $199, $279 and $399 for the top four. Basic is annual only.
Does Contractor Foreman have a free trial?
Yes, 30 days. On top of that, annual Plus, Pro and Unlimited plans have a 100-day money-back guarantee, and monthly plans have 30 days. That's one of the most generous trial setups in construction software, so use it on a real job rather than sample data.
What are Contractor Foreman's payment processing fees?
Contractor Foreman lists Visa, Mastercard and Discover at 2.9% plus 30 cents, Amex at 3.9% plus 30 cents, and ACH at 1% plus 30 cents capped at $10. For contractors collecting large draws, the ACH cap is the standout. A $50,000 payment by ACH costs $10 instead of about $1,450 by card.
Is Contractor Foreman better than Buildertrend?
It's much cheaper and covers many of the same modules. Buildertrend starts at $499 a month and is more polished, with a stronger client experience around selections. Contractor Foreman runs $49 to $332 a month billed annually. For a small GC on a budget, Contractor Foreman usually wins. For a remodeler selling high-end jobs with lots of selections, Buildertrend may be worth the gap.
Can I add one user to Contractor Foreman?
Not as a per-seat add-on. Plans are capped by users, so going from 3 to 4 users means moving from Standard to Plus, which is $166 instead of $105 a month billed annually. Plan for headcount when you pick a tier.
